Birmingham, Alabama.  Just another cloudy, dull day for spring breakers.

Jerry Tracey

This makes 5 days in a row of cloudy, unseasonably cool weather.  It will stay cloudy tonight, then tomorrow will be another day with plenty of clouds and an upper-level disturbance may actually manage to squeeze a little light rain out of the clouds. Once again forecast models are tempting us with high temperature predictions in the 60’s for Thursday.  But these models have been wrong and consistently too warm all week, so I am forecasting a high of only 59 for Birmingham.  That is still several degrees warmer than today, so we will see what happens.  With moisture in place and a storm in the upper atmosphere tickling the moisture on Thursday, there could be a couple of light showers or a little intermitent light rain, but there certainly won’t be much.  That brings us to Friday, and finally that should be a day in which the sunshine finally wins out.  And with a return of sunshine, temperatures will respond very nicely with highs expected around 70.
Saturday will mark the official start of springtime, and it will be a fitting day with highs in the lower 70’s.  It is likely to stay dry during most or all of the day, but clouds will be on the increase.
And a strong cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms at night.  There is still some question how much low-level moisture will return, but there certainly is enough wind energy to support some strong to severe storms before it turns much cooler on Sunday.
